  • Eclipse SDK 4.0

    Sa, 2010-07-31 12:27

      July 28, 2010 - The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of Eclipse SDK 4.0, the next generation Eclipse platform. Eclipse has a very large and successful ecosystem of plugin providers and RCP application developers. Eclipse 4.0 introduces new features that make it easier for the members of the ecosystem to build and assemble Eclipse plugins and RCP applications.

        Some of the new features introduced in Eclipse 4.0 include:

        * A model-based user interface framework to specifying the widgets in an application's user interface. This provides the developer a lot more flexibility to design a modern looking UI and remove the 'IDE-ness' that was often introduced into RCP applications.

        * A new CSS-based declarative mechanism for application styling allows you to change the skin of an application with CSS style sheets.

        * A services-oriented programming model makes it easier to use the services provided by the Eclipse platform.

      Eclipse 4.0 is for early adopters of Eclipse technology. It is highly recommended that plug-in and RCP developers begin to migrate their existing solutions to the 4.0 platform. Full binary compatibility with API from previous Eclipse 3.x platform releases makes the migration process as simple as possible.

  • OpenGL 4.1 Specification

    Di, 2010-07-27 23:57

      July 26, 2010 –Los Angeles, SIGGRAPH 2010 – The Khronos™ Group today announced the immediate release of the OpenGL® 4.1 specification, bringing the very latest graphics functionality to the most advanced and widely adopted cross-platform 2D and 3D graphics API (application programming interface). OpenGL 4.1 is the sixth update to OpenGL specification in two years, continuing the rapid evolution of this royalty-free specification. This new version continues to maintain full backwards compatibility to enable developers to begin using new features whenever they choose, while portably accessing state-of-the-art GPU functionality across diverse operating systems and platforms.

      The OpenGL 4.1 specification has been defined by the OpenGL ARB (Architecture Review Board) working group at Khronos, and includes the GLSL 4.10 update to the OpenGL Shading language and is accompanied by a number of extensions introducing cutting-edge functionality to the OpenGL standard. The full specification is available for immediate download at http://www.opengl.org/registry.

      New functionality in the core OpenGL 4.1 specification includes:

        * Full compatibility with OpenGL ES 2.0 APIs for easier porting between mobile and desktop platforms;
        * The ability to query and load a binary for shader program objects to save re-compilation time;
        * The capability to bind programs individually to programmable stages for programming flexibility;
        * 64-bit floating-point component vertex shader inputs for higher geometric precision;
        * Multiple viewports for a rendering surface for increased rendering flexibility.

      New ARB extensions introduced with OpenGL 4.1 include:

        * OpenGL sync objects linked to OpenCL event objects for enhanced OpenCL interoperability;
        * The ability to set stencil values in a fragment shader for enhanced rendering flexibility;
        * Features to improve robustness, for example when running WebGL applications;
        * Callback mechanisms to receive enhanced errors and warning messages.

      Lastly, Khronos has simultaneously released a set of ARB extensions to enable as much OpenGL 4.1 core functionality as possible on previous generation GPU hardware; providing maximum flexibility and platform coverage for application developers.

    KDE 4.5 RC3

    Di, 2010-07-27 22:47

      KDE Community Ships Third Release Candidate of the 4.5 Workspace, applications and development platform

      July 26th, 2010. Today, KDE delivers the third release candidate of the upcoming KDE Software Compilation 4.5. The KDE Software Compilation consists of the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, a large number of applications for all purposes and the KDE development platform the applications and workspaces are built upon. The final version will be available next week This last RC is intended for verifying no showstoppers will creep into the final release of 4.5.0. It will also interest those who want an early look at what is coming to their desktops and netbooks this summer.

      The KDE Community continues to fulfill the promise of delivering state of the art architecture with its Development Platform. The Applications in Software Compilation 4.5 take advantage of this, introducing improvements across the board in terms of innovative new features, greater ease of use, accessibility, good looks, better networking and further internationalization.

      KDE SC 4.5 sports many improvements, among which are:

        * A reworked notification area. Thanks to the new, D-Bus-based protocol that replaces the old "system tray", a uniform look and consistent interaction scheme can now be guaranteed across applications and toolkits.

        * KWin-Tiling makes it possible to automatically place windows next to each other, employing the window management paradigm also found in window managers such as Ion. Advanced graphical effects, such as blurring the background of translucent windows make for a more pleasurable and usable experience.

        * Users that prefer WebKit above the KHTML rendering engine currently used in Konqueror, KDE's web browser now can install the WebKit component and switch Konqueror to use WebKit as rendering engine for web sites. The WebKit component for Konqueror is available from KDE's Extragear repository, is based on the popular KPart component technology and fully integrates with password storage, content-blocking and other features users already know and love in Konqueror.

        * A special focus of this release cycle is the stability of the software delivered with KDE SC 4.5. While there are many exciting new features, developers have spent considerable amounts of time finishing off features and polishing those that haven't come to full bloom yet.

      Initially planned for KDE SC 4.5.0, the KDE PIM team have decided to delay the release of the Akonadi-based KMail. In the meantime, the stable version of KMail from KDE SC 4.4 will be maintained. Akonadi will centralize syncing and caching of PIM data, deliver wider support for groupware servers and makes handling PIM data, such as contacts, calendaring and email more efficient by sharing it across applications.

    Vendetta Online 1.8.136

    Mo, 2010-07-26 01:38

      VO 1.8.136 includes:

        - New Manufacturing Mission for the Neutron MkIII Turret
        - New Manufacturing Mission for the Aeolus Light Repair Turret
        - New Manufacturing Mission for the FireCracker Turret

      Each manufacturing mission is located in a specific Conquerable Station (one per station). Each mission may be taken twice in a 24 hour period by any given user (to prevent trivial mass-production). The Neutron MkIII and Aeolus Repair Turret are pretty self-explanatory. The FireCracker Turret is something new.. a very high-speed, high-maneuverability missile with significant force impact and very little damage. Basically a guided "flak" round, which can provide a significant distraction to an inbound attacker, and knock them off course, but not do much damage. The weapon has a six-round capacity, for now. Like everything in the game, it is open to tweaking and balancing should any issues surface.

      Next week I plan to do some re-working of bots on the development side, laying out the organization for some of the planned "Universe Redux". In the short term, I intend for there to be a great deal more diversity in bot drops, which will then play a big part in upcoming manufacturing missions at Conquerable Stations, and hopefully leading to a Playable Trident sometime in the not-too-distant future. We'll see how that all goes, but the bot cleanup on the development side is sorely needed, so I can get a better handle on where we are and how to take us where we need to go. I'm also looking for a lot more diversity in bot types, so when we start rolling out Nation Patrols and things, you may see "Veteran" or "Ace" class NPCs along with regular ones, and the like. That's aside from a wider selection of Hive, and hopefully some specialized types that crop up in certain locations at certain times, with very interesting and unique drops.

      It should all make for some pretty cool stuff that I can (hopefully) do in a short period of time. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope everyone else does as well. Take care.

    VLC 1.1.1

    Fr, 2010-07-23 01:24

      Changes between 1.1.0 and 1.1.1:

        libVLC:

          * New capabilities for libVLC:
          * Adjust video filter control: libvlc_adjust_Enable, libvlc_adjust_Contrast, libvlc_adjust_Brightness, libvlc_adjust_Hue, libvlc_adjust_Saturation, libvlc_adjust_Gamma
          * libvlc_media_player_set_pause() can force the pause state, whereas libvlc_media_player_pause() would only toggle it.
          * libvlc_set_user_agent() configures the "user agent" strings used for some protocols (HTTP, PulseAudio...). This replaces the --http-user-agent and the former --user-agent libvlc_new() parameters.
          * libvlc_video_set_callbacks() and libvlc_video_set_format() allow grabbing video frames from a chosen memory location in real-time. This replace the ugly --vmem-* libvlc_new() parameters in previous versions. See http://wiki.videolan.org/LibVLC_SampleCode_SDL as an example.
          * libvlc_audio_get_delay() and libvlc_audio_set_delay() configure the delay between audio and video/subpictures for the current input.
          * Various fixes and crash preventions, especially when video functions were called early

        Decoders/Demuxers:

          * Fix performance issues with GPU decoding using DxVA2 using ATI graphic cards You NEED ATI Catalyst 10.7

    PHP 5.3.3 / 5.2.14

    Fr, 2010-07-23 01:17

      [22-Jul-2010]

      The PHP development team would like to announce the immediate availability of PHP 5.3.3. This release focuses on improving the stability and security of the PHP 5.3.x branch with over 100 bug fixes, some of which are security related. All users are encouraged to upgrade to this release.

      Backwards incompatible change:

        * Methods with the same name as the last element of a namespaced class name will no longer be treated as constructor. This change doesn't affect non-namespaced classes.

        <?php
        namespace Foo;
        class Bar {
        public function Bar() {
        // treated as constructor in PHP 5.3.0-5.3.2
        // treated as regular method in PHP 5.3.3
        }
        }
        ?>

      There is no impact on migration from 5.2.x because namespaces were only introduced in PHP 5.3.

      Security Enhancements and Fixes in PHP 5.3.3:

        * Rewrote var_export() to use smart_str rather than output buffering, prevents data disclosure if a fatal error occurs (CVE-2010-2531).
        * Fixed a possible resource destruction issues in shm_put_var().
